Happy World Theatre Day from David!

Date Posted: 30/03/2015

Dear Friends of Theatre Orangeville,

Happy World Theatre Day!

Created in 1961 by UNESCO, World Theatre Day is marked annually on March 27 by communities and supporters of theatre worldwide. It celebrates the power of theatre as an indispensable bridge-builder for mutual international understanding and peace and promotes and protects cultural diversity and identity.

Mieko Ouchi reminds us in her 2015 Canadian World Theatre Day Message available online at www.pact.ca, that this a time when theatre might be needed more than ever in the world. In a world driven mad by senseless violence and blind intolerance, in a world left brokenhearted by economic collapse and social indifference, in a world where freedom of speech, faith, lifestyle and self expression seem to be valued less and less each day even in this country, theatre constantly holds up the mirror of hope reminding us that no human is ever truly alone no matter how often they may feel like it.

Theatre allows us to find the empathy and compassion to see ourselves in others by offering potent and powerful moments of communion and connection between the performers and viewers watching the same human experience acted out before them.

I cannot think of a better way to celebrate this very special day than by seeing our upcoming World premiere production of Norman Bray In The Performance Of His Life, written by Governor General’s nominated novelist Trevor Cole.

Starring Stephen Sparks (the wickedly handsome and charming prince in last season’s A Snow White Christmas), Heidi Lynch (the spectacular Milli in Queen Milli of Galt) and brilliant Theatre Orangeville newcomer Jesse Griffiths bring this wonderfully absurd play to life in a production that will stay in your heart forever!

Please join in the World Theatre Day celebrations by booking tickets to the theatre of your choice, preferably Theatre Orangeville of course! Every time you enter a theatre somewhere, anywhere, you cannot help but be transformed every time we transport you to a world of magic and light!
