2007 / 2008 Season

One Moment

Book and lyrics by Norm Foster

Music by SteveThomas

World Premiere
September 20 - October 7, 2007
A musical that’s both funny and poignant, about six characters who work at a call centre taking orders for a collection of self-improvement DVDs. Danielle is the new girl, fresh out of a small town and into the big city to seek her fortune. Kenny always has a joke and an encouraging word. Gail is her not-so friendly boss who has a big crush on John the aspiring playwright, but John is oblivious to Gail’s overt advances. Maria has had man trouble for all of her adult life. Stuart is the ex-con, newly released from prison and trying to put his life back together again. Then there’s the regular caller on the other end of the phone who is threatening to end it all. One moment is all it takes to change someone’s life, and before this work day is through, all of their lives will be changed forever.

Sexy Laundry

by Michele Riml

October 25 – November 11, 2007
Armed with a copy of ‘Sex for Dummies’, Alice and Henry check into a trendy hotel with a mission – to jumpstart their 25-year marriage. Time, kids, stress (and gravity) have all taken their toll on their relationship. Something has to give and Alice is determined that this weekend will be the final effort to save their stale relationship. Can their marriage survive Alice clad completely in leather or Henry’s complaints over the hotel’s pricing? Sexy Laundry is a touching and laugh-out-loud romantic comedy that is guaranteed to strike a chord.
Due to the mature nature of this production, it is not recommended for children under 16.

The Giant's Garden

Book and lyrics by Peter Fenton and Scott White

Music by Scott White

(World Premiere)
November 29 – December 23, 2007
Based on a tale by Oscar Wilde, this musical tells the story of two young children who sneak over the wall to secretly visit the garden of their unfriendly neighborhood Giant. Bird and Flower join young Constance and Oscar as they search for Summer who has been banished forever from the garden by Winter and the selfish Giant. The Giant’s Garden is a delightful tale with a powerful message, a perfect family show that carries on our holiday tradition!

Rope's End

by Douglas Bowie

February 14 – March 2, 2008
Toby Boone, a middle-aged man, sits alone in a drab room tying the end of a rope. He is tired of being on the losing end of life and is contemplating ending it all. When he comes across a photo of the love of his life he is struck by a moment of hope that she could save him from the abyss. There is only one problem; the last time he saw her they were 13 years old and at summer camp. What if she doesn’t remember him? Even worse, what if she does? This is a witty and funny look at ‘what might have been’.

Mesa

by Doug Curtis

April 10 - April 27, 2008
Paul, an out of work writer, agrees to drive his wife’s grandfather, Bud, to his retirement trailer in Mesa, Arizona, thinking the adventure an inspiration of the road trip will lift him from the slump he has found himself in. The problem is 93 year old Bud is intent on arriving for his last year at the trailer the same way he always had; stopping at his favourite Dennys and Motel 6s along the way, and with no interest in indulging in Paul’s romantic notions. Through their friction and while watching Bud and his friends in the twilight of life, Paul’s own life is altered in this poignant comedy.
