Auditions for the 2010 Young Companies

Drama:  March 29, 31  and April 1 at Covenant Alliance Church, 3 Zina Street Orangeville

To audition for the Drama Young Company, prepare two contrasting monologues (for example comic and serious), one to two minutes in length each.   The monologues from plays are recommended.  Also bring a resume, highlighting any previous experience and theatre skills, and a recent photograph.


Musical: April 12 and 13 at the Arbour Condominiums, 60 C Line Orangeville

To audition for the Musical Young Company, please bring a resume, highlighting any previous experience and theatre skills, a recent photograph, a two minute memorized monologue and a song to sing a cappella.

THE PIED PIPER

Ages: 9 to 17

What do charming children, ravenous rodents, troubled townspeople, conniving councillors, a loquacious librarian and a manipulative mayor have in common? These characters, along with the Pied Piper, sing, dance and act their way through Theatre Orangeville's summer musical theatre production of THE PIED PIPER. Adapted from the classic story, THE PIED PIPER offers members of the Young Company an opportunity to develop and extend their performance skills, as well as to participate in a major production on the Theatre Orangeville stage. This production will enhance the comedic skills of young actors as the dialogue is filled with humour and word play.
 
Beginning on July 5 and with performances on the weekend of July 23, THE PIED PIPER, directed by Anne Reid and choreographed by Jenee Gowing, requires young people between the ages of nine and seventeen. Auditions will be held on April 12 and 13 with call backs on April 19 and 20.  For those auditioning for both Young Company - Musical and Young Company - Drama, auditions will be held on April 8.

Rehearsals will run Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m.

FEELIN' GROOVY - A CELEBRATION OF THE 1960s

Program Director: Jane Ohland Cameron

August 3 to 29

Monday to Friday 9:30 to 4:30

Ages: 11 to 16

Celebrate the spirit of the 1960s.  Rehearse and perform an original Canadian script in an enthusiastic and professional environment.  Explore the rock and roll, the culture, the fashion, the lingo and the style of teenagers in a decade that rocked the world. Rehearsals will include percussion work, tie-dye creations, movement, vocal work, improvisation, mask work, and a range of roles, both comic and dramatic.  This exciting theatrical experience will culminate in four performances on the Theatre Orangeville stage.

Performances on August 27, 28 & 29

Cost: $780 plus $102.70 HST = $892.70


  Program Director’s biography (as related to teaching theatre skills):

Jane graduated with an Honours BA in English and Drama from the University of Western Ontario. She earned a Type A teaching certificate in English and an Honours Specialist Certification in Theatre from Althouse College of Education. Upon graduation, Jane joined the New Space Theatre under the direction of Ken Livingstone. The ensemble approach to production allowed Jane the opportunity to begin to hone her skills as an actress, assistant to the director, playwright, stage manager, props mistress and tour manager. Jane later focused upon playwriting for theatre for children and script writing for kids’ television. Volunteer work under the tutelage of Gary Sarazin led to employment with Theatre Orangeville. Jane is entering her seventh season as a writer and youth director with this great theatre. Specific interests include mask making, mask performance, physical theatre, improvisation, and co-creating comedy with young actors. Central to Jane’s work: creative exploration, the unlimited power of the imagination, the joy of expression, humour and the essential ingredient – awesome kids
