Storytelling & Song: An Actor’s Guide to Acting Through the Music

The Storytelling & Song: An Actor’s Guide to Acting through Music focuses on using song as a storytelling tool rather than a vocal showcase. Participants will work with Artistic Director Jennifer Stewart to explore how lyrics, music, and character come together to create compelling, believable  performances. Through guided exercises and skill-building activities, actors will learn how to make clear choices, connect emotionally to the material, and communicate intention while performing a song, and singing the story.

Meet the Instructor:

Jennifer Stewart

Jennifer is a Canadian theatre director, actor and educator with over 35 years of professional experience, directing, performing and teaching internationally, as well
as for theatres across Canada. She is a graduate of the Music Theatre Performance Program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario and holds an MFA in Theatre Directing from East 15/University of Essex in London, UK. Jennifer has spent nine seasons with the Stratford Festival as both an actor (The Taming of the Shrew, The Imaginary Invalid, Fiddler on the Roof) and as an assistant director (HMS Pinafore, Long Day’s Journey into Night, Othello). While with the Stratford Festival she was a participant of the Michael Langham Program for Classical Theatre Direction under the mentorship of the incomparable Martha Henry. Jennifer brings her passion, knowledge and experience into her current role as Artistic Director for Theatre Orangeville.
