New Play Development

We donā€™t like to brag... but since 2006 weā€™ve developed over 100 new Canadian works. So a little bragging is allowed, right?

In all seriousness, a core tenet of our mission is to showcase the development of new Canadian works. To do this, we created the New Play Development Fund.

100+

plays &Ā musicals developed

About the Fund

Established in 2006, the New Play Development Fund supports the creation of new plays and musicals.

The Fund covers the extensive costs associated with creation of new works. Including:

  • Commissioning

We commission new works from phenomenal Canadian playwrights.

  • Development

We provide dramaturgical support, ā€˜cause writing can be a challenging, lonely process. Not with us. šŸ˜Š

  • Workshopping

We hire actors to read through and workshop all of the plays.

How is the Fund funded?

Funding is derived from the generous donations of our patrons and sponsors, as well as our reading series, Authors on Stage, created and curated by BookLore.
