Theatre Orangeville Thanks Orangeville Town Council for Its Confidence and Support

The Board of Directors of Theatre Orangeville extends its sincere gratitude to Mayor Lisa Post and Members of Orangeville Town Council for approving a $300,000 loan that provides Theatre Orangeville with a path forward and reinforces the important role the theatre plays in our community.

We would also like to thank the Town’s leadership and staff for the time, care, and expertise they devoted to understanding our situation over the past several months. In particular, we extend our appreciation to Chief Administrative Officer David Smith, Chief Financial Officer Cheryl Braan, and the Town’s Finance team for their guidance throughout this process. We are also grateful to Alison Scheel, Executive Director of the Orangeville Business Improvement Area, for speaking in support of Theatre Orangeville and recognizing the important role it plays in our downtown and local economy.

Over the past several months, the Board of Directors and Artistic Director Jennifer Stewart have worked together to implement significant organizational restructuring, strengthen governance, introduce new revenue initiatives, and take meaningful cost-containment measures to position Theatre Orangeville for long-term sustainability while continuing to champion exceptional Canadian storytelling and meaningful artistic experiences for our community. These actions have established a renewed path forward for the organization and give the Board confidence that the approved loan will be repaid in accordance with the agreement.

The Board recognizes the responsibility that comes with Council’s confidence. We are fully committed to repaying the loan in accordance with the approved agreement and to continuing the work of building a strong and sustainable future for Theatre Orangeville.

Throughout this process, we have been deeply encouraged by the support shown by our patrons, subscribers, donors, sponsors, volunteers, artists, community partners, and residents. Your messages of encouragement have been a powerful reminder that Theatre Orangeville is far more than a stage. It is a place where stories are shared, creativity is nurtured, young people discover their voice, and our community comes together.

Since 1994, Theatre Orangeville has proudly championed Canadian voices, developed new Canadian works, inspired thousands of young people through arts education, and contributed to the cultural and economic vitality of Orangeville and the surrounding region. We remain committed to that work.

As we look ahead, our focus is firmly on the future. We are excited to welcome audiences to our upcoming Season of Discovery, thoughtfully curated by Artistic Director Jennifer Stewart. Featuring a compelling lineup of Canadian stories and unforgettable theatrical experiences, the season reflects Theatre Orangeville’s commitment to artistic excellence, community connection, and a vibrant future for live theatre in Orangeville

On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you to everyone who has stood beside Theatre Orangeville. Your belief in our mission has helped make this moment possible. We remain committed to earning your trust as we continue building a vibrant future for Theatre Orangeville and the community we are proud to serve.
