Hadestown: Teen Edition

This July, join us as our Young Company presents Hadestown: Teen Edition. In her directing debut for Theatre Orangeville, incoming Artistic Director, Jennifer Stewart, will lead our youth acting troupe to command the stage in the teen-version of this Tony Award winning musical.

About the show:

This intriguing and beautiful story delivers a deeply resonant and definitely hopeful theatrical experience.

Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown: Teen Edition invites audiences on a boisterous journey to the underworld and back.

Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, this sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against devotion, and fear against love. Hadestown: Teen Edition is a full-length adaptation of Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown, modified for performance by teen actors for family audiences.

What is Theatre for Young Audiences?

We believe theatre is a powerful tool. It dramatizes and contextualizes the world. It invites us to walk in other’s shoes; see the world through their eyes.

All of our Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) shows are grounded in the Ontario curriculum; they teach, through theatre.

Bonus: we hire educators to create study packages, so your classroom can get the most out of the experience.
